We suggest one trade the LA Clippers could make with the Washington Wizards

Today we look to find a trade for the LA Clippers to make with the Washington Wizards. The Wizards will be attending the Orlando NBA bubble to compete for a spot in the playoffs but they might as well be on the outside looking in.

Washington is currently in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 24-35, five-and-a-half games behind the eighth-seeded Orlando Magic. To have a shot at the playoffs, they’ll have to get to within four games of the Magic (or the Nets, should they fall to eighth place) which will not be an easy task given their current circumstances.

It was recently announced that star shooting guard Bradley Beal will not compete with the team in Orlando. Things seem to be on the outs for Beal in Washington as they might be shopping him around with their eye on a rebuild in the very near future. While it would be tempting to try to come up with a scenario that lands him with the Clippers, we don’t think it’s quite realistic as many other teams could offer up much more in return for the two-time All-Star.

The team is already without Beal’s backcourt running mate John Wall, who continues to rehab from injury. Wall’s expensive contract is looking like a bigger and bigger risk with every passing year, injury, and setback. Breakout forward Davis Bertans has also announced that he will not be joining the team in Orlando, as the six-foot-ten inch Latvian will become a free agent at the end of the season as is looking to protect what will certainly be a major payday.

But what if Bertans was willing to play for a contender…

Why we suggest this trade for the LA Clippers:

This move is admittedly an all-in move for the Clippers to go for broke and win the championship this year. Is Bertans the player that puts them over the top? We don’t know, so the move would be risky. But his shooting and size is a nice upgrade from JaMychal Green. If this move was guaranteed to bring a ring to the Clippers, we certainly do it, even if it adds another expiring contract to the mix of this offseason’s already difficult slate of decisions the team will have to make.

Would the Wizards do it?

Of course, they would. Bertans is walking in the offseason and they are in dire need of a rebuild. If they do indeed decide to trade Beal for a major package down the line Landry Shamet is a great young guard to insert into the starting lineup to let him develop on a young team with no pressure around him. Green can opt-out of his contract at the end of the season and walk and the Wizards are on their way to a complete overhaul.
