Ivica Zubac's contributions are repeatedly overlooked on the LA Clippers

Following the transition to a new era, Ivica Zubac has proven to be a foundational piece for the LA Clippers. Zubac was acquired in 2019 when the team needed a center, and the front office has relied on his consistent contributions since the trade went through.

As of the current roster, Zubac remains the longest-tenured Clipper in uniform. He has played with franchise legends like Lou Williams and Kawhi Leonard while excelling through a coaching change between Doc Rivers and Tyronn Lue. Clipper fans worldwide understand Zubac’s value and how detrimental he is to the team’s championship aspirations.

Agreeing on an extension with Zubac was on the priority list for executive Lawrence Frank and the front office. He is one of the few players around the league who rarely miss games and somehow manage to dominate year after year. Yet for some reason, the spotlight continuously overlooks what the seven-foot big man brings to the table.

Ivica Zubac is undoubtedly one of the most valuable contributors on the LA Clippers.

In a time where injuries have gotten the best of the LA Clippers, Ivica Zubac has trained his body to sustain health mentally and physically. He has amassed various feats on and off the court, making him the epitome of success for the coaching staff and front office.

Last season, Zubac averaged 11.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks while shooting nearly 65% from the floor. Although these numbers are impressive, they do not demonstrate his ability on defense to guard the perimeter and block a high percentage of shots around the rim.

Due to the unique chemistry Zubac developed with superstar James Harden, head coach Tyronn Lue ensured these two shared time on the court in the playoffs. Harden spoon-fed the big man numerous times, making it easy for the Clippers to score against Dallas.

Despite another year of disappointment, the Clippers’ front office saw firsthand why Zubac is a cornerstone piece for the franchise. He is a top-tier center the coaching staff is fortunate to have when constructing a championship blueprint for next season. It is now time for NBA fans to give Zubac his flowers for what he contributes on both ends of the floor.
