We had known for some time that the LA Clippers were looking to get a deal done to extend big man Ivica Zubac. Now, the reliable center will officially be renewed for another three years with the team, at a price of $58.6 million.
Heading into the 2023-24 season, the Clippers had several priorities they knew were top priority. The first of which being to re-sign Kawhi Leonard. They accomplished just that back in the winter, when they agreed to a new three-year deal with the two-time Finals MVP.
Of course, getting Paul George back was important for the front office too, but clearly not as much as keeping Kawhi. When the organization officially lost George at the end of June, it became of the utmost importance to now work on getting an extension for Ivica Zubac.
The Clippers re-signed Zubac for three years, $58.6 million
Being the longest-tenured member of the Clippers' roster, Big Zu has quite a bit of experience with the franchise, even predating Kawhi. The entire organization obviously has a certain level of comfort and familiarity with who Zubac is, and he continues to prove just how valuable he is on the hardwood.
In 2023-24, Zu put up a career-high 11.7 points along with 9.2 rebounds a night. He did it while shooting just under 65% from the floor, simply crushing his opponents on the interior in both the scoring and rebounding departments.
Now, the Clippers get he and his services back for an average of around $19.53 million per season, which is really something of a bargain given what he brings to the table. LA now has all their major pieces re-signed, and fans can breathe a sigh of relief as we inch closer to the start of the regular season.
