The LA Clippers have done a fantastic job of restructuring their roster this offseason. With several new faces being added to the locker room, the Clippers are ready to run it back and continue toward their goal of winning a championship, even with Paul George now out of the picture.
Along with upping the talent on their roster, the Clippers have also worked on adding more expertise to their coaching staff. Jeff Van Gundy will be joining the Clippers' staff next season, bringing a plethora of knowledge from years of working in and around the league.
On Thursday, the latest addition to the Clippers' coaching staff was announced. Law Murray of The Athletic reported on X that LAC will be adding former NBA player Amir Johnson to the player development staff.
Amir Johnson will join the Clippers' player development staff
Plenty of Clippers fans will remember Johnson's name. No, he never played in Los Angeles, but he did enjoy a 14-year professional career in the association. Amir played for the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers during his tenure in the league.
Standing 6-foot-9 and playing at power forward and center during his time in the NBA, Johnson employed a more traditional big man style of play. Some of his best seasons as a player came with the Raptors in the mid-2010s, when he was a regular starter for Torontoa nd averaged double figures in scoring.
Now, Amir will bring his expertise in coaching big men to the Clippers and be a big asset for the coaching staff in terms of training post players. Expect guys like Ivica Zubac to get even more of a boost from having someone like Amir Johnson coaching him at practice.
