Tyronn Lue's wishful thinking projects hope destined to be disproven

Tyronn Lue has goals as the LA Clippers head coach, and the fans are all for it, as long as they are realistic. However, Lue’s bar is too far out of reach, leading to questions about his film-room comprehension. In the pre-game press conference against the Los Angeles Lakers, he mentioned the Clippers’ goal moving forward is 35-20.

The Clippers defeated the Lakers, 103-88, their first home win since Halloween, and led from start to finish, so Lue is on the right track, yet that does not mean much given LA’s 7-21 record.

By letting the world know he strives for a 50% win-percentage finish, Lue implied how impractical he can be amid a rough patch. The Clippers’ chances at a 41-41 win-loss record are a thing of the past, and in no time will he realize the delusion surrounding his goals for the season.

Tyronn Lue has a level of optimism around the current LA Clippers that is absurd

The heavily neglected moments of a win streak the LA Clippers had no idea would be their only one so far were on October 26th. Tyronn Lue has not managed to win two games in a row since, and has yet to win three consecutive games this season, but has the ultimate goal of .500.

Moreover, Lue is hoping optimism will shift the energy. He wants the turning-point win to desperately occur, and likely believes what the Clippers just did to the Los Angeles Lakers could have been it.

However, Ivica Zubac just sprained his left ankle, and the Clippers won the ‘Battle of L.A.’ over the Lakers, who did not have Austin Reaves or Deandre Ayton, and lost Luka Doncic after the first half.

Thus, Lue is poised for an unpleasant surprise. Thinking and embracing a positive state of mind will not make the Clippers younger, speed them up, restore their health, or improve their defense.

On January first, Lue should have a proper New Year’s resolution, like simply making the play-in tournament with no record goals attached, jotted down in his personal notebook. This is better than shooting for the stars amid 28 games of non-stop problems and disasters.

That said, Lue voiced a goal that will not age well. He appears to have his eyes on the bright side, no matter what, and has clearly lost sight of Monday night’s loss to the play-in contending Memphis Grizzlies.
