Although there are a plethora of guards the LA Clippers have the freedom to pick from for the fifth overall pick, Kingston Flemings, a one-and-done phenom produced from the Houston Cougars basketball program, has opted to only visit three teams for draft workouts: Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, and last but not least, the LA Clippers. This essentially implies that Flemings has LA as one of his preferred destinations.
Isn’t that just wonderful for LA? One of the most coveted guards, who has some of the most potential, particularly on defense, in the 2026 class, wants to be a member of the Clippers. This is an exciting feeling, to say the least.
In addition, the gesture done by Flemings to only work out for three organizations speaks volumes, and could certainly have an impact come draft night.
The Clippers would welcome Kingston Flemings with open arms
One thing Kingston Flemings must keep in mind, as he conducts his visits, specifically with the LA Clippers, is that the feeling is likely mutual; the team needs his services just as badly as he would like to be taken in the upper echelon of the draft lottery.
This is primarily because he’s one of two guards, the other being Keaton Wagler, who poses absolutely zero concerns regarding fit.
Flemings is a defensive machine who can shoot the lights out of the arena. That makes him perfect for any backcourt in the entire league, but even better for the Clippers, as they need a complement to Darius Garland.
Flemings is not just a three-point shooter, though; he can create space with the best of the best despite his size disadvantage and has a true passion for the long-lost art of the midrange. This is the definition of a three-level scorer, and explains how he averaged just above 16 points.
What’s more is that Flemings is an excellent playmaker. He posted just 1.8 turnovers per game across 37 contests for the Houston Cougars, to go along with 5.2 assists. And, when the pressure was higher in the March Madness tournament with the season on the line, the two-way stud managed to still find quality shots for his teammates.
That said, whether the Clippers trade down or stay put for him, Flemings is a wise choice. He’s one of those guys who’ll do everything you ask him to, and that’s a match made in heaven for Jeff Van Gundy.
