In monitoring who the LA Clippers could utilize their open two-way spot on, a potential option is Dalton Knecht of the Los Angeles Lakers. He’s about to enter the third year of his career, but because the Lakers need to trim their roster to 15 and are currently at 16 players, Knecht could end up the odd man out given his limited role and minimal production over the years.
If that happens, Knecht signing with the Clippers would be a golden opportunity to revive his NBA career and live up to the hype of a former 17th overall pick taken ahead of many names that’ve panned out. How so? LA needs youth, and opportunities to play quality minutes may be available early because of injuries to Jordan Miller, Bradley Beal, and Brandon Ingram, who won’t be there to start the season.
Signing with LA would also be convenient for Knecht, as he can remain at home. He’ll just be playing for a team on the other side of town.
If waived, Dalton Knecht’s best bet is to stay at home and sign with the Clippers
Dalton Knecht didn’t get much playing time for the Los Angeles Lakers as a sophomore last season. He had only one start, averaged 10.2 minutes in the regular season, and never really found a footing in JJ Redick’s rotation. He was kind of there and, in between, spent time on the Lakers’ G League roster.
So, as one could guess, Knecht is probably hungry for the opportunity to show he truly belongs in the NBA.
All things considered, wouldn’t the LA Clippers be the perfect destination for Knecht?
LA’s bench, particularly at wing, is nearly wide open right now. Jordan Miller will be back around the All-Star break, and there is currently no timetable for the return of Bradley Beal (knee inflammation) and Brandon Ingram (partially torn Achilles).
On the flip side of things, there’s a possibility the Clippers could look back, if he’s waived by the Lakers and signed to a two-way contract by LA, and be glad they gave Knecht an opportunity.
Not only is he just 25 years old, but Knecht can shoot the lights out of the arena, is a competent defender, and is extremely coachable.
He’s the exact type of player the Clippers would love to have now and for the future, which only adds to why LA’s organization is fit for him.
