Over the offseason, the Denver Nuggets will most likely have the strongest of desires to retain Peyton Watson in restricted free agency. He’s due for a massive salary raise after breaking out for Denver, and to keep him, the Nuggets’ front office will have to dump someone’s salary via trade, which could very well be Cam Johnson, who underperformed in the playoffs and is about to enter the final year of his contract.

This is certainly news for the LA Clippers, as the acquisition of Johnson helps tremendously in the three-point shooting department, which is undeniable, given that it’s his specialty, along with overall flow and ball movement. The added benefit of making a move for him is that, if he doesn’t live up to the expectation, there’s an easy way out: let him walk free of charge.

Johnson has been among the best in the league in these categories, hinting that he would be a phenomenal addition to a Clippers’ squad that may be looking to revamp.

Cam Johnson could unlock the Clippers’ offense if acquired

Last season, the LA Clippers were in the bottom 10 in three-point attempts. That’s unacceptable, and in the grand scheme of things, having such a low volume limited the offense in so many different ways.

It’s like there was a cap on what they, as a team, could produce on a nightly basis, and by adding Cam Johnson from the Denver Nuggets, it’s instantly removed.

Granted, Johnson is already 30 years old, which doesn’t feel real considering he was drafted by the Brooklyn Nets in 2019, but he still averaged nearly 5 three-point attempts for the Nuggets and shot 43.0% in the process.

That’s considered pure excellence from a distance, and something the Clippers are in need of.

Simply having Johnson next to a set of elite shooters in Darius Garland and Kobe Sanders will give opponents nightmares for days; the cords of the net will be on fire regularly.

Additionally, in the event that head coach Tyronn Lue decides to bring him off the bench, there would be no surprise if he ends the season with a Sixth Man of the Year.

Regarding the package between the two teams, the Clippers could easily get away with shipping the bare minimum to the Nuggets, as Lawrence Frank is certainly aware of how desperate Denver will be to create room for Peyton Watson.

This is exactly why Johnson is one of the perfect offseason targets.
