Of the several evident bidders for Kevin Durant, the Houston Rockets won the war and officially landed the two-time champion on their already stacked roster. Fred VanVleet and Alperen Şengün were great scoring options, but Durant immediately surpasses them, making everyone's life easier.
In return, the Rockets received the Suns' tenth overall pick, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and five second-round picks. This appears to be an underwhelming haul for a player of Durant's caliber, but the reason Phoenix accepted is because they may have another move in mind.
After this blockbuster deal, the Suns have far too many wings within their rotation. At the moment, they are rostering Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, along with Green and Brooks. Someone has to play point guard, and someone has to move to the forward position, which means a follow-up trade is inevitable.
Among the bunch, Green is the guy the Suns should build around, and they also have the tenth and 29th picks to utilize to rebuild their young core from scratch. This is a solid start, but the question shifts to what will Phoenix do with the other three veteran wings.
This is where the LA Clippers can take advantage of a chaotic situation in The Valley and snatch Brooks for a cheap price tag.
The LA Clippers could sweep up Dillon Brooks from the Phoenix Suns after a massive domino fall with Kevin Durant
Although landing Devin Booker is a move every LA Clippers fan wishes would happen, the most realistic player executive Lawrence Frank could trade for from the Phoenix Suns currently is Dillon Brooks.
Brooks was a crucial piece to the Houston Rockets' turnaround, and although he can score and defend, his value stemmed from his ability to set the tone on both sides of the ball. This is how the Rockets developed an identity, as their mentality would have been entirely different in the last few seasons without his tenacity.
In a potential deal that sends Brooks to Inglewood, California, the Clippers could give up Bogdan Bogdanović and a future second-round pick. While Bogdanović is not young or an All-Star, he is on an expiring contract(team option next summer). On the contrary, Brooks' term ends after the 2026-27 regular season.
Brooks would also be the perfect piece for the Clippers to add this summer, as he is not afraid to shoot or show his teeth with elite perimeter defensive skills. This is the dream player for Jeff Van Gundy, making it clear the former All-Defensive guard would thrive in LA.
