Clippers' next major splash could happen sooner than fans anticipate

One of the events that often occurs every year for fans of major markets is the acquisition of well-known role players and stars. The Toronto Raptors experienced a similar situation at the trade deadline with Brandon Ingram. Likewise, the New York Knicks made a series of moves involving Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges.

They did not used to be this well-regarded, but Steve Ballmer has done wonders in elevating the LA Clippers’ brand to a big market. His spending on the team, arena, and providing incentives to the faculty has transformed the Clippers from being the little brother of Los Angeles to establishing a presence in one of the most visited cities in the United States.

Moreover, the Clippers’ market indeed affected the decision of players like Brook Lopez and Bradley Beal. They did not feel as though they were signing on as the backup option in Los Angeles, which led to a major splash with their deals being announced on social media.

However, there is usually never a calm moment for the Clippers, and that is not set to change next season. Their roster may appear complete for now, yet errors are inevitable. If the most detrimental ones occur too frequently to the same player, particularly a star, then a significant transaction is likely to occur.

This could be directed towards several of the Clippers’ stars, but the one walking on the most fragile of eggshells is Bradley Beal, who may be moved sooner than anticipated.

Bradley Beal not playing or performing poorly in the LA Clippers’ system would lead the front office to their next big trade

Bradley Beal’s contract may list that the LA Clippers are employing him for two years, if he accepts the player option after next season, but his time to prove himself begins on opening night versus the Utah Jazz.

The Clippers will surely keep him if he plays well on both sides of the ball, as Tyronn Lue expects, but he could underperform with unprecedented shooting slums or stretches of absences.

Either scenario would force the Clippers to add his name to the 2026 trade block, sending out another notable star that many may not currently expect.

The good news for LA is that his contract is friendly, far from what the Phoenix Suns dealt with, so if he disappoints, moving him would bring in more benefits, as the Clippers could just end up saving money.
