The current odd man out among the 15 standard contracts the NBA allows on the LA Clippers appears to be Cam Christie, a former second-round pick. The organization has gone through trial and error with him repeatedly, yet before fully moving on, they extended his guarantee date, giving him a chance to use training camp and preseason to prove himself.

After a disappointing opening game against the Golden State Warriors, where he logged five turnovers and shot 2-for-8 from the field in 28 minutes, Tyronn Lue looked to him to start in Toronto, and he didn’t do much better, scoring just eight points. Because of Christie’s poor performances, it’s clear the Clippers’ next move will be to waive him.

Hopefully, the 21-year-old can shine elsewhere, but with the Clippers, he just doesn’t belong. There’s no room for him on the team.

Cam Christie has shown he doesn’t deserve a spot on the LA Clippers’ roster

Heading into year three, one would expect Cam Christie to have developed his skill set in some way, shape, or form. That could mean improved three-point shooting, better finishing, a stronger defensive presence, or even putting on muscle in the weight room.

However, based on how Christie has looked in the LA Clippers’ preseason so far, he’s still the same player with potential who can't find a way to maximize it.

In what was one of his main strengths coming out of college, scoring, Christie hasn’t done much. There’s no excuse for making just four shots in two games, and it’s mostly because he struggles with physicality, fails to create space for himself, and still hasn't learned how to move off the ball.

If it couldn’t get any worse, Christie’s skinnier frame, six-foot-five and 190 pounds, makes it extremely tough for him to stand out on the defensive side of the ball, and it’s been on display.

He hasn’t shown the ability to create stops, consistently hold his ground, or protect the rim effectively.

Therefore, with everything taken into consideration, Christie doesn’t deserve a guaranteed contract from the Clippers, or even a return in the open two-way spot. The experiment with him needs to end. The Clippers must waive him and move on.

A players that is only somewhat valuable when he is on fire is not worth keeping around. Down the line, though, once he reaches his ceiling, a team could certainly use him.
