In what was a story most kids can only dream of, as he hit a game-winner in his first-ever game in the NBA, Keaton Wagler had a sensational all-around performance in the LA Clippers’ preseason win against the Golden State Warriors. Wagler stuffed the stat sheet with a total of 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block, as well as eight-of-nine makes at the free-throw line in 30 minutes.
With everything taken into account, especially how he handled himself with composure and poise in a high-pressure environment, the Clippers already got a strong glimpse of who the fifth overall pick can be in the NBA one day: a star.
It’s certainly worth noting Wagler’s game-winner wasn’t just a catch-and-shoot three-pointer or a go-ahead layup in transition. Instead, he did what the best players do: dribbled up the court, got to his sweet spot in the mid-range, and pulled off a sweet move originated by Penny Hardaway.
That’s ridiculous stuff for a 19-year-old.
Keaton Wagler showed he can be a star in the future for the Clippers
If it wasn’t already clear that Keaton Wagler has superstar potential, it certainly is now after his preseason debut for the LA Clippers. On both ends of the court, Wagler showed out, leaving a strong first impression on coaches, the front office, and fans all over the world.
On the offensive end, shots weren’t falling for Wagler. He went 3-for-15 from the field and 1-for-11 from beyond the arc. But what do the top guys do? They stay aggressive, don’t let misses hurt their confidence, and find other ways to make an impact.
Wagler did just that. He never seemed discouraged or afraid to shoot the ball. From start to finish, the Fighting Illini product was constantly focused on putting the ball through the net.
He also did a great job at crashing the glass, making plays for others, and looking the part on defense, which he specifically mentioned in a post-game interview.

"My shots weren't falling... but defensively, I thought I held my own."
The cherry on top? Wagler didn’t have a single turnover. That speaks volumes considering he had the duty of handling the ball in numerous instances and played more minutes than anyone on both teams.
Overall, based on a performance like this, Wagler can exceed the expectations placed on his shoulders. It’ll definitely take significantly more time, attention, development, and growth, but the future is brighter than ever for the young point guard.
