The LA Clippers show off their depth in a crucial win versus the Rockets
After an underwhelming loss against the Brooklyn Nets, the LA Clippers bounced back in a win against the Houston Rockets. As the franchise centerpiece Kawhi Leonard continues to recover, his fellow superstar Paul George played yet another phenomenal game. In addition, George received help from multiple different players.
Furthermore, George struggled through the first two quarters, which allowed essential pieces in Marcus Morris, Reggie Jackson, and Luke Kennard to step up. As the game went on, George picked up the pace making it very difficult for Houston to spark a momentum-shifting scoring run.
Besides George’s crucial contributions, the scoring-specialist Reggie Jackson may have had his best contest of the season. He was outstanding all game as he finished with 17 points and six assists on 7-11 shooting. This must be an excellent feeling for head coach Tyronn Lue and his staff, as Jackson struggled quite a bit through the first few match-ups of the season. Without Leonard, having Jackson at his best will be the key to winning games.
What’s more, the LA Clippers had six players score in double figures. Alongside the game against the Cavaliers, this win will go down as one of the best of the season. Not to mention the team shot 50.6% from the field, 36.8% from three, and out-rebounded the Houston Rockets.
Confidence is rising in the locker room as the LA Clippers look to ignite another winning streak.
Through a blowout win, the coaching staff took full advantage of the LA Clippers’ roster depth against the Houston Rockets. Along with Leonard, Lue was also missing his play-making point guard John Wall. This did not slow the Clippers down as they won by a significant margin.
Moreover, Lue played his catch-and-shoot wing Robert Covington despite missing the last few games. Although Covington ended the win with four points, he added four rebounds and a +/- of +6. This is worth noting, as his role in the rotation should continue to increase as the season progresses. Additionally, Covington should be playing close to 20 minutes each night, similar to the minutes of Nicolas Batum.
Moreover, one player who has played exceptionally well over the last few games is the slashing wing, Terance Mann. While he did have a slow start to the year, Mann has been on a roll lately, scoring in double figures in three out of his last six games. This adds to the Clippers’ depth, especially when their roster is in total health.
Nonetheless, this game was the first night of a back-to-back. The LA Clippers will face the magical powers of Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks for their next match-up. This will be an extremely tough battle if the Clippers allow their struggles to catch up to them. However, Lue should have no problem leading his squad to another win if the team plays hard defensively.
