No. 2 reason why Kawhi Leonard should stay with the Clippers over the Warriors: The chance to build his own legacy

Let’s face it, if Kawhi goes to the Warriors, he’ll have to share a spotlight. That’s not the worst thing, but it’ll still be Steph’s franchise. Even if Kawhi is hands-down the better player, that organization will always belong to their homegrown two-time MVP.

It will be easier for Kawhi to continue to establish his own legacy here, where he’s undoubtedly the number one guy.

Look, there have been too many superstars in these past 11 or 12 years who have chosen to go be a part of somebody else’s team. That’s part of why Leonard’s so respected for ending two of those dynasties.

That’s who Kawhi is. He’s the type of player who puts a stop to a superteam, not the type of player who creates one.

As we saw in Game 7 of the last series, Kawhi has the potential to be the best player on the planet.

If he stays with the Clippers, he has every opportunity to prove that. If he hops up to Golden State, then he puts himself in position to be second-fiddle. Kawhi doesn’t need to risk being anyone’s sidekick.

He should stay in LA and run the show himself.
