With the Clippers playing the Denver Nuggets tonight, Boban Marjanovic should get big minutes against a club who has proven they can’t stop him.
The Denver Nuggets are all too familiar with Boban Marjanovic after he has completely dominated them in recent games with the Los Angeles Clippers.
The 7’3 Serbian center became a fan favorite last season when the Clippers beat Denver. The big man came off the bench to lead a comeback to the tune of 18 points, five offensive rebounds, two steals and a block in only fifteen minutes of play. Denver had absolutely no answer for him.
Flash forward to last week when the Nuggets faced the Clippers in a preseason battle and the same held true. Boban got the starting spot after Gortat was given the night to rest.
Bobi did not disappoint in his fifteen minutes, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Once again, Denver could not do anything to stop him.
That brings us to tonight, the season opener. The Clippers face the Nuggets yet again and Boban should get the call. While he won’t start, he deserves to get at least fifteen more minutes off of the bench.
Teammate Marcin Gortat has already equated him to the great Kareem Abdul-Jabar, so how could he not get minutes? Nikola Jokic and Mason Plumlee will be absolutely dwarfed by Boban while they are on defense and lack the quickness to punish his lack of mobility on the offensive end.
If Bobi can play, expect a lot of pick and roll action from him and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The two could cause a ton of havoc for the Nuggets’ defense. This may be only the first game of the season, but if the Clippers hope to make the playoffs in a tough Western Conference, every single win will count.
Getting one against Denver, who will be a likely playoff contender themselves, would be huge for this team. Boban can help make that happen, given the chance to get on the court and preform against the Nuggets.
