"The Los Angeles Clippers and head coach Doc Rivers have agreed to a contract extension."
The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a contract extension with head coach Doc Rivers, per their official PR Twitter account.
The news comes as no surprise as the two sides had already been reportedly talking for months. Now, it’s official.
The extension makes sense, given how Doc Rivers handled the team this season. While riddled with injuries and trading away their star players, Doc still managed to keep the team close in the playoff race all the way up to the last week of the season. The team finished with a 42-40 record.

Steve Ballmer seems very comfortable with Doc, despite taking away his general manager powers. Doc the GM was far from successful. However, with his return to just coaching, coupled with the changes in the front office, the team seems to be headed in the right direction.
There have been no details given on the extension yet, but we would assume that Doc will be getting a hefty contract over multiple years.
It’s also interesting to note that Doc wanted out of Boston because he did not want to be part of a rebuild. With the Clippers trading Blake Griffin and Chris Paul this past year, it seems like he is in on the front office’s plan. Maybe there is no rebuild for the Clips, but a re-tooling.
