The Los Angeles Clippers were reportedly offered a trade for DeAndre Jordan from the Cleveland Cavaliers, but talks have stalled.
With the future of the current iteration of the Los Angeles Clippers up in the air, it comes as no surprise to see offers popping up. According to Sam Amick of USA Today Sports, the Cleveland Cavaliers offered the Los Angeles Clippers a trade for center DeAndre Jordan.
The trade, which the Clippers reportedly were not interested in, centered around Jordan, several Cavaliers’ players and their 2018 first round draft pick. The Cavaliers’ players include Tristan Thompson and JR Smith, both of which have high value contracts.
Thompson is currently signed through 2020 and is making around $18 million each year. Smith is also signed through 2020 and will make around $15 million each season.
"Cleveland continues to offer only its own first-round pick and this kind of unwanted money in those stalled negotiations."
The Cavaliers still seem hesitant to offer the more coveted of their two draft picks, the pick coming from the Brooklyn Nets.
Many who follow the LA Clippers believe that the team would HAVE to get the Brooklyn pick involved for them to consider this deal. After moving Blake Griffin, it seems like the Clippers are trying to get money off of the books in order to make a play in free agency. Taking back Thompson and Smith’s contracts would do the opposite of that, so a lottery pick would seem necessary.
