Former LA Clippers forward Jamil Wilson may sign with Lakers

WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 15: Jamil Wilson

Just days after Jamil Wilson was waived by the LA Clippers, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Los Angeles Lakers may add him on a 10-day contract.

Jamil Wilson, who was waived by the Clippers last Friday because of his expiring contract, was a Summer League and G-League standout who fought hard for his spot on the team. He played 15 in games for the Clippers this season, averaging 7.0 points and 2.1 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per game. He scored a career-high 17 points against the Sacramento Kings in his final game with LA, ending his short run shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc.

Once he clears waivers, Wilson will be able to sign a 10-day contract with any NBA team. According to Wojnarowski, the Los Angeles Lakers are the front-runners to do so.

The Lakers have been something of a disappointment this season, and their numbers show it. As a team, Los Angeles connects on just 32.8 percent of its three-point attempts, the worst rate in the league. Kyle Kuzma has been their best deep-ball shooter, and he’s still barely hitting 38 percent. Unfortunately for Clippers fans, it seems Wilson would likely be an excellent fit.

Before you sharpen your pitchforks and light your torches, keep in mind that there was virtually nothing the Clippers could have done to prevent this. Wilson was on an expiring 45-day contract and a roster saturated with forwards. His shooting was a welcome spark during his run with the team, but with injuries decimating LA’s backcourt, the Clippers had no choice but to waive Wilson and call up Tyrone Wallace. The NBA is a business, and Wilson gave his all to the LA Clippers.

The Clippers will meet the Lakers one last time this season, their final game of the year, on April 13.
