With his 45-day contract nearing its end, the LA Clippers have waived forward Jamil Wilson.
In a season that has featured numerous injuries, the Clippers have had to improvise as best as they could. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, LA made a roster move on Friday.
The Clippers will be waiving Jamil Wilson, a 27-year-old rookie out of Marquette. In 15 games with the ball club, Wilson started in 10 of them. He averaged seven points per game, shooting 47 percent from the field and 43 percent from deep. Due to numerous injuries, Wilson was able to find some playing time, averaging over 18 minutes a game. His best game came a little over a week ago, where he scored a career-high 17 points versus the Sacramento Kings.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as the Clippers weren’t expected to hold onto Wilson once his 45 days were up. However, it is sad to see him go. In his short time with the Clippers, he proved he’s more than capable of being a solid NBA player.
What do the Clips do now?
With injuries to Patrick Beverley, Austin Rivers, and now Milos Teodosic, the Clippers are thin at the guard position. And when I say thin, I mean very thin. Jawan Evans is most likely the new starting point-guard, and you’re still going to need Lou Williams off the bench. It’s no surprise that the Clippers are turning to a guard for help.
Welcome to the team, Tyrone Wallace!
The Clippers will be signing G-League standout Tyrone Wallace to a two-way contract. In 23 games with the Agua Caliente Clippers, Wallace is averaging 23 points a game, while shooting 52 percent from the field. For what it’s worth, he’s also averaging six rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block per game as well.
As mentioned, with the Clippers having little guard depth, Wallace most likely will be seeing playing time right away. His first career NBA game? Who better to face than the defending champion Golden State Warriors!
Thank you Jamil Wilson for you time and dedication, and good luck on your future endeavors. As for Tyrone Wallace, welcome to the team!
