After meeting with the LA Clippers in late-May, “The Logo” Jerry West will now officially be working with the team as a consultant for the front office.
What a great way for the LA Clippers to start off the summer. Jerry West will be huge in developing the team going forward.
West has been working for the Golden State Warriors as an executive board member since 2011. His most recent and significant accomplishment for the dubs was talking with Kevin Durant prior to him coming to Oakland. He also successfully rallied for the team to draft Klay Thompson. West’s contract with the Warriors ends in July, and after a meeting with the LA Clippers that West described as “intriguing”, he has indeed made the decision to work as a consultant for the good guys.
Even though Warriors owner Joe Lacob expressed his want for West to come back, the still competitive 79-year old has accepted this new challenge with the Clippers.
Doc will need all the help he can get attempting to bring back Chris Paul and Blake Griffin for another run at NBA gold, but those two aren’t the only players with sticky contract situations. Mo Speights has opted out of his player option for next season, and Luc Mbah a Moute is expected to do the same. Other spots will need filled as well, meaning even more stress and meetings for the front office. There couldn’t be a better time to hire a legendary NBA figure and effective consultant like Jerry West!
The past 24 hours have been some of the most Clippers news-filled time intervals in the past year.
Adrian Wojnarowski came out and said that the Celtics are targeting Blake Griffin once again, it was announced that Steve Ballmer is financing a new arena to be built for the Clippers, and now Jerry West is joining the team. No complaints from us here at Clipperholics, just excitement for the future of the team!
