Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical recently stated he believes that the Boston Celtics could convince Blake Griffin to leave the LA Clippers in free agency.

Get ready for NBA free agency everyone. With the NBA Finals over, we can now start the hardcore speculation. Adrian Wojnarowski stated today on his podcast that he believes the Boston Celtics are looking hard at Blake Griffin. Will they be able to sign him away from the LA Clippers?

"“Boston is really the danger for Blake Griffin. I think Boston’s two primary free agent targets, right now, are Gordon Hayward and Blake Griffin. Now they’re not going to get both of them, but they’re both players that would potentially have interest there. I think Boston looks at in different ways with their future.”"

Boston finished first in the conference this season and were eventually knocked out by the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, thanks to the work of Danny Ainge, they have cap space, essentially the same team moving forward and the number one pick in the NBA Draft. The Celtics want to make a big splash in free agency.

Obviously, the Celtics have been discussed alongside Gordon Hayward throughout the season. Hayward would fill the Celtics weakest spot and has a connection to coach Brad Stevens, who coached him in college. The small forward is due for a big pay day and moving to the East would be good for both him and Boston.

Snagging Blake Griffin from the LA Clippers would mean that Al Horford would have to slide over to the center position. Horford has made it clear in the past that he doesn’t like playing center. Griffin would fit well alongside Horford though, especially on the offensive end, since he would have space in the paint to create.

Although this is just speculation on Woj’s part, don’t be surprised to see the Celtics make a big run at Griffin. They have the money and are looking for that missing piece that can vault them over the Cavaliers and into the NBA Finals.
