Fresh off the closing of the trade deadline, news has broken that Clippers’ guard J.J. Redick has committed to re-signing with the team.

Thank the lord. With the Clippers not making any moves before Thursday’s trade deadline, rumors surfaced that J.J. Redick has committed to re-signing with the team this summer. Redick will be an unrestricted free-agent. The team will likely go well over the cap to sign him, provided they also bring back both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.

According to NBC Sports:

"The capped-out Clippers will have no mechanism to adequately replace Redick if they re-sign Paul and Griffin. Exceeding the cap to re-sign Redick is the only feasible path to maintaining contender status – a must with Paul, Griffin and DeAndre Jordan in place."

With the level of play that J.J. has been producing at, many expected him to be courted by several teams. His ability to shoot while moving off screens is a huge commodity in today’s league.

The Clippers’ other starting guard, Chris Paul, reportedly committed earlier this week. Paul, who has a player option at the end of the year, committing to coming back bodes well for the team.

Clippers’ forward Blake Griffin has also reportedly suggested he would like to stay in Los Angeles with the team. To sum it all up: The gang is getting back together.

This is probably the best case scenario for the team. The group of Griffin, Jordan, Paul and Redick is a solid core and could do some harm in the playoffs. However, the lack of cap space and other assets is hurting the team from bringing in anyone else. Hoping for something to break the right way may be just what this team has to do.
