Reports have come out saying Chris Paul has verbally agreed to terms with the LA Clippers for a deal around $200 million.

According to Basketball Insiders, Chris Paul has verbally committed to re-sign with the LA Clippers this summer as part of a $200 million deal. Paul can be expected to sign a new max contract with the cap rising.

His supposed verbal agreement is a good sign for the team moving forward, as there is a chance both he and Blake Griffin could bolt this summer. The Clippers, who would still be hard pressed for cap space, have bird rights for both players.

Blake Griffin has also reportedly stated he wants to re-sign with the team, despite trade rumors surrounding him most of the past couple of seasons.

Paul joined the team in 2011 as part of a trade. His joining, along with the eventual trade for coach Doc Rivers brought a change of culture to the Clippers. The team became a perennial playoff team, but have been hampered by injuries and have not been able to advance past the second round.

This season, Paul was having yet another solid year, before tearing a ligament in his thumb which required surgery. Due to the injury, he did not make the All-Star team and is still expected to be out for another couple of weeks.

Chris Paul has so far averaged 17.5 points, 9.7 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals while shooting 47.1% from the field.

This rumor comes in the midst of the trade deadline, during which the Clippers have supposedly been inquiring about the availability of multiple small forwards around the league. Carmelo Anthony, a close friend of Chris Paul, has been the main source of rumors, but Wilson Chandler and P.J. Tucker have also garnered some attention.
