A worry for the LA Clippers, and every team that makes the Western Conference Playoffs, is having to face the Phoenix Suns, specifically the two-time champion, Kevin Durant. He instilled nightmares across various franchises, and there are often circumstances where teams go out of their way to avoid playing him.

However, this season, the NBA legend may miss the playoffs, as Phoenix's struggles have continued into the end of the year. Durant has stamped another phenomenal season, but his contributions are left empty, given the Suns' 32 losses.

Furthermore, there are a combination of reasons why the Suns have not been good this season. Their roster is not crafted to perfection, off-the-court problems have occurred, and the pressure of winning in the late stages of Durant's career may have become too heavy.

These miscues follow the Suns' sweep by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round last season. This is not a good sign, and if the Suns miss the postseason, there is an elevated belief that Durant will switch organizations.

On NBA Today, Brian Windhorst, a credible source across the league, mentioned that Phoenix will likely barter Durant this offseason. This news brings joy to the ears of executive Lawrence Frank, as stars Kawhi Leonard and James Harden may need another force to win a championship.

The LA Clippers will be expected to make an offer for Kevin Durant

If, and likely when, Kevin Durant requests out, the LA Clippers will be the perfect suitor. He will have two superstars, a phenomenal coaching staff, and a new arena to nominate as his new team.

The Phoenix Suns may list a high price on Durant, but there will be limited serious inquiries if Durant has his next destination in mind. Though he does not have a no-trade clause, contenders will not want to make a trade for him if the interest is not mutual.

Moreover, the Clippers will be forced to include one of their two stars, Norman Powell or Ivica Zubac, in the package. LA may sell high on Powell, add another role player, and draft compensation to finish the negotiation process.

Additionally, attaining Durant gives the Clippers an extended tenure of Kawhi Leonard and James Harden. The front office will likely hold on to Leonard in the summer, and the three-time scoring champion could opt into his player option for a multi-year extension.

That said, landing a superstar like Durant is the smartest route for himself and the Clippers. This explains why the blueprint for LA is evident once the offseason begins.
