It is surely out of the question that Collin Sexton is enjoying his stay with the Charlotte Hornets. He has guided the rookie, Kon Knueppel, well, with a pace trending toward Rookie of the Year, which must be a fulfilling feeling, yet the Hornets are 11-23 on a three-game losing streak. This backs up the idea that Sexton could be pulling better weight for the hottest team in basketball, the LA Clippers.
In Charlotte, Sexton has been the captain of consistency. He has scored single digits only twice in 26 games and has posted averages of 15.3 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.1 rebounds, shooting 48.4% from the field.
Through thick and thin, Sexton has always been reliable. He left a good impression on the Cleveland Cavaliers and Utah Jazz, and his numbers hint that he deserves a way out.
The Clippers have a sixth-man role wide open, calling Collin Sexton’s name
Eight years in the NBA, and Collin Sexton must feel embarrassed to say that every one of them has ended early. He has missed out on many character-changing experiences and holds a non-applicable playoff reputation.
Furthermore, Sexton has never played in front of the largest crowds, walked through a playoff tunnel, or experienced playoff pressure, which will make him better. He is likely unfazed by elimination in the regular season, differing from his great five-star and Alabama days.
The Charlotte Hornets are also the 12th seed, neck-and-neck with the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards, and seem to be slamming the brakes on LaMelo Ball. They do not have the hunger to match Sexton's, which is clearly playoff-centered.
Moreover, Sexton has indirectly rung the help-wanted bat signal suggesting a change of direction is mandatory. The LA Clippers’ colors don't give off a superhero vibe. Yet, they could still play the role of one by proposing the idea of using the former Alabama guard’s expiring contract for Bogdan Bogdanovic and other assets that only come up to the bare minimum.
Thus, Sexton may make the playoffs or gain unique experience in the play-in tournament with the Clippers. This is a win all around, and Lawrence Frank has the power to control by calling the Hornets on the veteran’s availability.
All in all, Sexton might like the architecture of the Hornets’ rebuild with Ball and Brandon Miller, yet he will not be able to help but smile at the Clippers’ culture, recent winning environment, and facilities.
