Potential Clippers free agent target is now off the market
By Will Eudy
Ever since the departure of Paul George, the LA Clippers and specifically President Lawrence Frank have been hard at work re-assembling the team's roster. George leaving was always a possibility, so management constructed plans for how to move forward without him. We have been seeing a version of those plans play out all offseason.
Opting for depth over more star power given roster and financial stipulations, the Clippers added a defensive-minded player like Kris Dunn to bolster the backcourt, while getting Derrick Jones Jr. and Nic Batum to supplant lost production on the wing. A few other small additions have led to LA's roster looking strong and ready for competition in a tough Western Conference once again.
We have heard recently from Lawrence Frank that the Clippers are mostly done making roster moves. The front office ultimately either missed out on or opted not to pursue other options that had been linked to them in rumors, and the current team is probably close to what we will see on opening night.
Precious Achiuwa re-signed with the Knicks
However, there is always still the possibility of another player being added on a veteran, minimum-level contract. As of Tuesday afternoon, one of the free agents that was available for such a price is now off the market.
The Knicks' Precious Achiuwa was one of the more desired free agents still left unsigned at this late point in the game. With the announcement that New York will be re-signing him on a one-year, $6 million deal, it gives the Clippers one less option to look at.
Again, the likelihood LA adds anyone else not on a minimum contract is slim. As such, missing out on the opportunity to add Achiuwa on an affordable deal has to feel like a letdown.
