Former Clippers fan favorite continuing his career overseas
By Will Eudy
LA Clippers fans will never forget the novelty of having Boban Marjanovic in Los Angeles during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. In fact, any NBA fan that has watched him play will likely never forget the experience.
Towering over opponents and his teammates alike, Boban stands at an impressive 7-foot-4, the same height as San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama. However, he is roughly 80 pounds heavier than the talented former number one-overall pick. For the last nine seasons, Marjanovic has puzzled NBA players repeatedly with his incredible height.
But an announcement on Tuesday revealed that Boban will officially pack his bags and take his talents overseas for the 2024-25 season. He is set to join Fenerbahce in Turkey, and his departure from the NBA could mark the end of his time in the United States for good.
There is always the chance Marjanovic could get another NBA offer a year from now. But for now, all signs seem to be pointing to him leaving the league and the country permanently.
Boban Marjanovic will continue his career in Turkey
If this is truly the end of his NBA career, what a unique nine-year journey it was for the Serbian. He began his time in the association with the Spurs in 2015-16, where he was used sparingly by Gregg Popovich on a juggernaut San Antonio team that won 67 games. When the Spurs needed a rebound or needed to put a big body in the paint, it was going to be Boban's time to shine.
When he was traded to the Clippers in the January 2018 deal that sent Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons, Marjanovic became a fan favorite in Los Angeles quickly. He played with the Clippers for a little over a year until he was dealt to the 76ers in a February 2019 trade deadline transaction.
Boban's large physical appearance was not the only defining characteristic that led to him becoming beloved by nearly every fanbase he played in front of. His personality was extremely endearing. In what could end up being his last NBA game ever this past season, Marjanovic intentionally missed two fourth quarter free throws so the crowd could get their free Chick-Fil-A.
Whenever he was on camera, Boban seemed to be a lighthearted and fun character. Other players always seemed to enjoy having him around, and he is sure to be missed by Clippers fans as well as plenty of others around the league.
