The Clippers now have their new backup center
By Will Eudy
When Mason Plumlee went down against the Knicks last week, the LA Clippers knew they would need to bring someone else in to fill minutes as a backup center. This became even more obvious on Tuesday night, when LA struggled to close out the Nuggets due to not having enough large bodies on the floor.
There had already been rumors that the Clippers were targeting Indiana Pacers big man Daniel Theis as a potential trade or free agency target to replace Plumlee in the rotation. Now, those rumors are becoming reality as Theis has officially agreed to a buyout with Indiana. Once he clears waivers, Theis reportedly plans to sign with the Clippers.
Daniel Theis will be the Clippers' new backup center
The addition of Theis will be a huge lift for a Clippers roster that is seriously hurting for size right now. With Ivica Zubac on the bench in the closing minutes in Denver on Tuesday, LA had very few defenders to throw at Nikola Jokic to give them any sort of chance of winning the game.
Having to play small lineups had been hurting the Clippers for the last week-plus, and it has contributed to their now six-game losing streak. This news comes as a major break for a reeling team desperate to get back into the win column.
Daniel Theis brings six years of NBA experience and plenty of playoff minutes with him to LA. His presence will play a big part in helping the Clippers get back to their winning ways.
