One of Pablo Torre’s biggest findings around Kawhi Leonard so far came awfully recently. The investigative journalist discovered that Leonard, who was already under investigation for salary cap circumvention with Aspiration, allegedly had business deals with Daktronics and a Rhode Island soccer team. Hearing this news crushed the hearts of LA Clippers fans all over the world, as it now seemed more likely that the trade with the Toronto Raptors would not go through as everyone had expected.
Well, according to Jake Fischer of “The Stein Line,” Torre’s findings “did not come as revelations” to the investigators, better known as the law firm based in New York, Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, hired by the NBA for Leonard. They “had already been looking into both.” This is definitely a relief to hear, especially with the media and training camp not far away.
Now, the hope is that, sooner or later, a resolution is reached and both the Clippers and Raptors get exactly what they want: Leonard in Toronto, as well as Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and draft compensation in LA.

Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, knowing about Kawhi Leonard’s alleged behind-the-scenes business deals and still not reaching a resolution, certainly says something valuable. If the evidence Pablo Torre discovered was clear, concise, and definitive, why is Leonard’s trade with the Toronto Raptors still being held up?
This could certainly mean there is more to the story than what has been brought to the media’s attention, which may support the claim that the two-time champion is innocent, despite several claims against him dating back to before the beginning of last season.
Additionally, in Jake Fischer’s latest report, he highlighted that “There is a belief in some corners of the league that the investigation is closer to completion than advertised.”
That sounds like music to the Clippers ' and their fans' ears. They have all been waiting, patiently, for some sort of solution, and the fact that it could be here soon is great, and just in time.
The best-case scenario is obviously a successful trade, implying that one of the worst cases is it falling through.
Nonetheless, though, preparation for the regular season is key. Whether that’s with Leonard or Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick, the Clippers need a conclusion before training camp, which is now a realistic possibility based on Fischer’s words.
