One of the most exciting times of the year for basketball fans worldwide is the release of NBA 2K. In just a few weeks, 2K27 will be available on all platforms, but before then, many player ratings across the league have been released.
Though many of them are fair, Darius Garland received an 84 overall. For an offensive maestro like Garland, who is gearing up to enter his first full season with the LA Clippers, this rating is too low to the point where it’s inevitable that the 26-year-old crushes expectations and proves those doubting him wrong.
For context, other players with an 84 overall include Kon Knueppel, Norman Powell, Ja Morant, Mikal Bridges, and De’Aaron Fox.
At first glance, just by looking at some of these names, Garland should definitely be in a tier above. He belongs somewhere in the late 80s.
Darius Garland is about to soar to new heights with the LA Clippers
Last season, the LA Clippers’ front office traded for Darius Garland at the deadline, and he was just thrown into the mix as one of the team’s top options. Garland didn't have time to prepare for what was to come, learn the playbook, or adjust at his own pace.
Still, despite every disadvantage that was stacked against him, in 19 games, the two-time All-Star posted 19.9 points, 6.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds, shooting 47.1% from the field and 43.8% from beyond the arc. These efficiencies are not normal for a six-foot-one, 192-pound point guard.
On top of that, Garland had several performances fans of the Clippers could never forget. One of his best: 41 points, 11 assists, and eight three-pointers made in an overtime win, on the road, versus the Dallas Mavericks.
With Garland fitting in extremely well with the Clippers in such a short time frame, it’s hard to imagine how good he will be with a full offseason that began early, training camp, and preseason in LA.
This is plenty of time to improve chemistry with his teammates, work on flaws in his skill set, and get stronger in the weight room.
In the grand scheme of things, Garland is going to ascend as a player. And by the end of the 2026-27 regular season, he will have proved every doubter wrong, leaving people to wonder how he was rated as an 84 overall in NBA 2K27 to begin with.
