According to ‘The Stein Line’, Miles Bridges is expected to be on the Charlotte Hornets’ trade block in the coming weeks. This is just perfect for the LA Clippers. Why? Well, there’s no better replacement for John Collins, who may end up walking away in unrestricted free agency, than Bridges, as he is the same age, can contribute to an identical capacity with a similar playstyle, and, best of all, is entering the final year of his contract(just how Collins joined the Clippers last summer).
If acquired, the Clippers would have a ton of flexibility; they could extend him mid-season, in the event Bridges proves himself, trade him at the deadline, as he would be of high value considering his expiring money, or just wait it out until the offseason, as they did with Collins, and attempt to re-sign based on the market.
Ultimately, everything lines up with why Bridges must be on the Clippers’ radar.
Miles Bridges would make such a seamless transition with the Clippers
Many of the power forwards available this summer may have a hard time adjusting to the way the LA Clippers’ system is run. On the other hand, with Miles Bridges, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Bridges was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, and for most of his tenure, he’s been teammates with LaMelo Ball. This has made it easy for him to average a relatively efficient 17+ points for four out of his seven seasons in the league.
This is worth noting because, with the Clippers, Bridges will have Darius Garland, a playmaker on the level of Ball.
That’s already a strong enough reason to believe Bridges performing well in LA is inevitable, but, on top of that, he would assume the duties John Collins had.
From the start of the season until the finish, Collins was assigned to putting pressure on the rim with his mind-blowing athleticism, spacing the floor, crashing the glass, and defending to the best of his abilities.
Bridges did much of the same for the Hornets, if not more, which was extremely helpful, as they had an impressive year, and surprisingly, almost made the playoffs.
That said, Bridges has shown he can win in the Collins-type role, and given all of the similar characteristics he has of the Clippers’ cherished big man, no one else checks off the boxes for Tyronn Lue better than him.
It’s just a matter of what the Hornets will ask to give Bridges up.
