Throughout the 2023 NBA draft, the LA Clippers hoped to find a second-round steal in Jordan Miller, an all-around forward from the University of Miami. He originally drew comparisons to the current Clipper, Terance Mann, as he replicated the ability to impact every aspect of the game.
In his last season with Miami, Miller dominated his conference in games, minutes, and field goals, leading to multiple honors in the ACC. Ultimately, the six-foot-seven forward averaged 15.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, shooting slightly below 55% from the floor.
These numbers and a deep March Madness run to the Final Four credited Miller with being one of the most talented in his class. Once he fell to pick 48, the Clippers were ecstatic to have selected the Virginia native late into the draft.
The Clippers’ coaching staff loved Miller’s mindset and ability to excel on both sides of the ball. They envisioned a promising timeline for Miller to fully develop in the NBA and join the active rotation as another version of Mann.
However, Miller took his game one step further with the G-League and is now being compared to an NBA superstar and former Clipper.
Jordan Miller’s scoring looks identical to that of the Oklahoma City superstar and former LA Clipper, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The G-League allowed Jordan Miller to grow and fully grasp how to score effectively in the NBA. He learned different moves, dribble combinations, and sizing techniques to beat his defender off the first step and make a play. Miller’s 79-inch frame gives him a significant advantage over other wings trying to defend.
Moreover, Miller understands playing at his own pace, decelerating when needed, and attacking the top foot. These strategies seem similar to those of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a perennial MVP candidate.
Not only was Gilgeous-Alexander once a Clipper, but he possesses a comparable size to Miller. They are close in height, weight, and wingspan, making it easy for head coach Tyronn Lue to see the vision.
Furthermore, Miller loves to change his speed and contort his body downhill to score the basketball. He is an excellent finisher who has the potential to crush the midrange. Additionally, the former Hurricane has mastered the art of a no-dip three-pointer, proving the various ways he can get a bucket.
That said, Miller is in a tough situation under Lue as the Clippers are chasing their first championship. Conversely, once the front office builds for the future, it will be his time to take lead as the next rising star in LA.
