John Collins future with the Clippers is already written on the wall

Every member of the LA Clippers’ fanbase would have raised their hand following the question, “whose heart is racing regarding the future of John Collins?” He is on an expiring contract, so a trade seemed like the likeliest outcome, but Tomer Azarly and Brett Siegel of ‘ClutchPointsreported that it is not within LA’s cup of tea to move the veteran forward.

This shows a rapid turn of events: last week, the Clippers were in the spotlight for turning down a deal to send Collins to the Sacramento Kings, an offer discussed earlier in the year, and now the front office has no intent to move him at all.

Thus, if Collins is stuck with the Clippers past the deadline, there may be a high chance he does not go anywhere in the summer. He is only on LA’s books for a few more months, meaning an extension will occur in the near future.

It would be embarrassing and foolish for the Clippers to let him slip away as an unrestricted free agent.

An extension on John Collins is next, if the Clippers’ trade rumors are true

Shockingly, a stretch of games was enough to convince the LA Clippers to reportedly retain John Collins, while they treated Norman Powell differently. Yet, if Tomer Azarly and Brett Siegel are correct, the front office could eye an extension with the fan-favorite.

Ever since the Clippers ignited a win streak, something special had been sparked in John Collins. He has the same playstyle on both sides of the ball, yet all of a sudden, his efficiency rose through the roof.

From December 20th, 2025, and onwards, he has averaged 15.2 points and 5.5 rebounds, shooting 69.1% from the field and 66.7% from beyond the arc.

Collins is averaging these points on these splits by just taking 8.5 shots per game. That is nothing, and only hints that his volume needs to be higher.

Moreover, if the Clippers are rather interested in an extension than trading him, they are in a now-or-never moment. The front office must speak with Collins and his agent to negotiate a fair, long-term deal that is still team-friendly as soon as possible.

That said, as the Clippers do not want age tanking their future, Collins is a good choice to extend. This is clearly their motive, and a smart one, given that he is only 28 and entered his prime just last year with the Utah Jazz.
