Anytime DeMar DeRozan's name hits the market, the LA Clippers are always on the list of destinations. It could be because he was born and raised in the heart of Los Angeles, or because the Clippers are always hunting superstars, but in retrospect, their name is expected to be in the small bunch.
Furthermore, DeRozan was signed and traded to the Sacramento Kings, and the speculation had officially reached a dead end. The former USC Trojan finally got to live out his dream of playing in California, and he seemed happiest.
Statistically, DeRozan was playing like he was feeling. In year one under Sac-Town, he averaged 22.2 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds, shooting 47.7% from the field and 32.8% from three-point territory.
On the contrary, DeRozan was still losing amid the mid-life crisis that Kings fans were battling during the coaching transition. In fact, Sacramento made it to the play-in tournament, but lost in game one to the Dallas Mavericks behind 33 points from the veteran wing.
Unfortunately, given the organization's overall changes, DeRozan is in an abnormal playing situation. Hence, according to a credible insider, their front office may look to move on.
Marc Stein mentions DeMar DeRozan possibly changing homes this summer, and the LA Clippers should show interest
He may have missed the postseason, but DeMar DeRozan still played like an All-Star in year 16. His score-first mentality tallied countless buckets, many in the clutch, proving that his game will not fade.
In a recent piece, Marc Stein, an NBA insider and relevant source, briefly mentioned that DeRozan could be another major name for fans to monitor this summer. He is elite in every offensive regard, and a team like the Clippers with two All-Stars looking for three, could use him.
In return, there would not be enough shots to go up for Norman Powell to get his share. This ultimately means he would be on the move, leading to a star-swap that could include future picks.
DeRozan will also become a free agent the same offseason as Kawhi Leonard and possibly James Harden. If all three team up, they would have two seasons at a championship push before the Clippers move on to a rebuild.
That said, the Clippers should consider a DeRozan trade that would bring him closer to home. It would make all the sense in the world, and he would unite with Leonard, the player he was traded for in 2018.
