Of course, LA Clippers fans worldwide are devastated to hear that Brandon Ingram is recovering from a partially torn Achilles. Rightfully so, we expected him to be ready on day one and help the Clippers crush the low expectations placed on them. It’s unclear when he’ll be back to 100%, which certainly affects LA’s ability to start on the right foot.
However, in the midst of the tragic news, the Clippers are told of the type of player Ingram is: relentless, team-first, and willing to show up no matter what the circumstances are. How so? Well, because his partially torn Achilles went undiscovered until the time came for him to receive surgery on his heel, the two-time All-Star was ultimately playing through immense amounts of pain during the Toronto Raptors’ first-round run versus the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Toronto did end up losing that series, and Ingram underperformed, but pushing through two major injuries at the same time takes a different level of determination. This commands respect.
Clippers have yet another reason to be excited about the acquisition of Brandon Ingram
Originally, there were too many reasons for LA Clippers fans to be fond of the idea of the team rostering Brandon Ingram. He’s a phenomenal offensive threat with three-level scoring ability, plus the capacity to make plays, crash the glass, and defend on the perimeter.
Not to mention, Ingram has two All-Star appearances on his resume, with one of them coming from last season, where he averaged 21.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists across a career-high 77 games. He did this while shooting 47.7% from the field and 38.2% from beyond the arc.
Now, outside of what he brings to the court, and even his ability to help the team behind the scenes in areas such as development, chemistry building, and leadership, we know for sure Ingram has a mindset that playoff-contending teams need from their stars.
It’s not often, especially in today’s era of hoops than ever, for guys with a lot of responsibilities on their hands to lace their kicks up and play through struggle. That makes Ingram's addition even more special for the Clippers.
So, at the end of the day, though emotions are still high from the news that Ingram won’t be ready to start the season, it’s definitely a massive green flag knowing the Clippers’ arguable top scorer is cut from a different cloth.
