With franchise superstar Kawhi Leonard set to return shortly, the LA Clippers will have enough juice to claim a top seed in the Western Conference. Stars James Harden and Norman Powell will be playing with less pressure, and the two-way flow will become smoother than silk.
Conversely, in the modern era of basketball, there is never a limit to how much firepower a team can possess. This has been a common strategy for years, as some of the league’s top superstars join forces to win multiple championships.
Although the Clippers made their best attempt by competing with Harden, Leonard, and nine-time all-star Paul George, it would not hurt to run it back, given the team’s shortage of draft picks.
That said, there is one point guard whose availability may open up soon. He is young and incredibly talented, giving the Clippers endless reasons to pursue him. If a trade is requested, now would be an excellent time for the front office to seize the moment and make a move.
The LA Clippers should call and check in on the status of Kings superstar De’Aaron Fox.
If the door opens and De’Aaron Fox requests a trade, the LA Clippers should drop what they are doing and attempt to meet the asking price. Despite the limited amount of draft compensation, the front office will have leverage over the Kings for their franchise point guard.
Per Sam Amick of The Athletic, Fox and his party are gauging the mood in Sacramento before making any decision. More importantly, the Kentucky product declined an extension because he understands there is a more lucrative deal ahead. This is crucial for the Clippers, as they will have to work their finances accordingly.
Moreover, Fox recently spoke with The Athletic and mentioned feeling confident in Sacramento’s chances of competing with the best of the best. If they continue to fail in the playoffs, the slashing point guard could make his exit.
The Clippers should play the long game, similar to when acquiring James Harden. This strategy allows the front office to give up less, as Sacramento will likely accept a reasonable return rather than letting Fox walk when the opportunity presents itself.
As for right now, the Clippers’ only focus should be winning in every aspect possible. This will lure Fox into the Intuit Dome, where he aims to win a ring and leave a legacy that will be engraved in NBA history.
