As one of the LA Clippers' few first-round picks in recent memory, the former Missouri Tiger, Kobe Brown, was drafted 30th overall in 2023. He was a strong, big man who could stretch the floor, defend, and immediately jump into the championship rotation of head coach Tyronn Lue.

Furthermore, this was the exact mindset of the front office, as Brown was drafted at 24 years old, with experience levels over most of his class. In fact, he spent all four collegiate seasons at Missouri, which showcased his development under one organization.

Once Brown arrived to LA's facility, fans hoped Lue would quickly incorporate him off the second unit. He was listed at six-foot-seven, 250 pounds, making him an unstoppable forward who could play bully ball in the paint.

However, this is not how Brown's year unfolded, as he was behind several other veterans trying to find minutes on the court.

Through the times Brown did play, he demonstrated what he could do in a promoted role. He would occasionally knock down a three, finish at the rim, and hustle with no limitations. He was a coach's best friend, yet Lue did not give him more playing time amid their championship push.

With multiple years left on his contract, executive Lawrence Frank may trade Brown this offseason if the team continues their race for an NBA Finals victory.

Kobe Brown's development with the Clippers has been set back, which may lead to a trade this offseason.

Had the LA Clippers eased Kobe Brown into quality minutes in the active rotation, he could have panned out for Tyronn Lue and his staff. Brown has the size and strength to become a contributing role player, primarily because he can shoot the three-ball at a solid percentage.

Brown averages 2.6 points and 2.0 rebounds this season in 7.6 minutes per night. Conversely, there would be numerous games when the former first-round pick did not see the court. Hence, his percentages should be taken with a grain of salt, as the attempts are usually in blowout wins/losses.

Moreover, if the Clippers engaged in a trade centered around Brown, they could at least bring in draft compensation or a veteran to help within the locker room.

That said, Lawrence Frank's offseason mindset will determine Brown's remaining contract with the Clippers. Depending on Frank and his staff's plans, he could either stay or be moved.
