With an open two-way spot, the LA Clippers should make the most of it. That means targeting someone who deserves another chance, strengthening their depth at center, or even bringing back a familiar face like Yuki Kawamura.
However, the front office had different plans. According to Shams Charania, Cam Christie, officially regarded as a failed draft prospect, is back with LA after being waived on a two-way contract, a move that's an absolute waste of a spot. He’s disappointed with the number of opportunities he's been given over the years, so what makes the Clippers think he’ll magically work out now?
On the topic of poor roster management, this is a prime example. They need to let go of the Christie experiment, and here they are keeping him around.
Why bring back a prospect like Cam Christie who has already failed in the league
In his time with the LA Clippers, Cam Christie looked one step too far behind in his development. On both sides of the ball, obvious flaws kept him from breaking out, as the Clippers have long hoped.
Over 68 games across two seasons, Christie averaged 2.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists, shooting 38.1% from the field and 24.5% from beyond the arc.
There's nothing appealing about these numbers. The problem is, Christie didn't just fail in the regular season; his most recent preseason showcase was worse.
He played in two of the Clippers’ three contests, was waived before the finale, and totaled 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 turnovers, shooting 4-for-11 from the field.
If that isn’t enough to move on for good, Christie underperformed in the 2026 summer league, where someone heading into the third season of their professional career should stand out in some way, shape, or form.
Christie suited up for 28.7 minutes over two games, and you wouldn't believe his numbers: 11.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.0 turnovers, shooting 22.2% from the field and 33.3% from three. This is truly unacceptable coming from a player who really stood out during his time with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Still, despite how atrocious Christie has been at basically every level of NBA basketball, the Clippers haven’t waived the white flag.
During the regular season, the Clippers will soon realize that giving Christie what feels like the millionth chance was a mistake, especially when they could’ve used that space for someone more valuable.
