Clippers already have Bradley Beal problem that will derail their season

The quick start from James Harden and Norman Powell, combined with the late finish from Kawhi Leonard and Ivica Zubac, laid the foundation for the LA Clippers' historically dominant end to the 2024-25 regular season. No matter what was ahead, these four were the glue of the locker room that helped the team maintain composure.

Outside of the foundation were Tyronn Lue, Jeff Van Gundy, Brian Shaw, and others, who proved why they are employed as coaches for one of the winningest teams of the 21st century in one of the top markets in the world: Los Angeles.

However, the binding factor of the team's success was an ego-less mentality, especially from the stars. This was mentioned in December 2024 by Powell, who is a premier example, given the number of times he was moved in and out of the starting lineup before breaking out to averages of over 20 points per game.

Off the court and in the locker room, this is a feature of Powell that will be missed more than many currently realize, as his replacement, Bradley Beal, may have a different mindset. This may stem from his superstar days as a Washington Wizard, but on a championship team, he must prioritize winning, which could already be an issue that interferes with LA's success.

Feeding into what is best for Bradley Beal will prevent the LA Clippers from reaching the NBA Finals next season

Bradley Beal was the best possible player the LA Clippers could get to start at shooting guard. He has averaged over 30 points in consecutive seasons and recently averaged 17 points at an efficient rate. But, with the three-time all-star, there is a trade-off the Clippers will face.

Moreover, Beal's mindset was opened up by his agent, Mark Bartelstein. Following words with Sportskeeda, Bartelstein hovered around the concept of allowing Beal to be himself.

Beal may still believe he is a first or second option, but he will be caught by surprise, as others already fill those roles on the Clippers. This is crucial because he has a player option after next season and could be competing for more money, which will be earned if he posts high averages.

This is where parties clash, as Beal will be expected to fulfill whatever responsibilities he is given to win games, not score the most points. Hence, he will not be 'that guy', possibly going against what he expects from LA next season.
