Though the LA Clippers received veterans Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills from their trade with the Utah Jazz, the franchise’s most prominent return happens to be their breathing room of the buyout market. If both sides agree to terms and conditions, they have free will to pursue the talents of their choosing.

With multiple players headlining the top of the Clippers’ wishlist, the best comes from the New Orleans Pelicans following their blockbuster trade with the Toronto Raptors.

Furthermore, NBA insider Shams Charania just reported yet another blockbuster trade through the February 2025 deadline. This deal moves Pelicans star Brandon Ingram to the Raptors for Bruce Brown Jr., Kelly Olynk, a first-round pick, and a second-round pick.

Despite missing out on Ingram, the Clippers can still call New Orleans to negotiate a buyout for Brown Jr., a seven-year veteran.

Due to role, experience, and fit, the Pelicans will pay attention to the idea of a buyout surrounding Brown Jr. On the flip side, the former second-round pick could use a new beginning, as he has not found a humble abode since the 2018 draft.

Additionally, Brown Jr. and Clipper wing Terance Mann have a connection off the court, as they have been friends before their arrival to the NBA.

Bruce Brown Jr. is the most viable target to pursue for Lawrence Frank and the LA Clippers.

As a buyout for Bruce Brown Jr. is likely in the conversation, the LA Clippers should make the call before another team beats them to it. The worst nightmare for executive Lawrence Frank would be another Western Conference contender, like the Denver Nuggets, winning the race.

Moreover, at 28, Brown Jr. has been great in the 17 games he has played for the Toronto Raptors this season. He posted 8.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists, shooting 44.3% from the floor in under 20 minutes per night.

These types of minutes are essentially guaranteed under head coach Tyronn Lue, as the Clippers have had an opening off their bench since late October.

Through contract negotiations after a buyout, Frank should attempt to sign Brown Jr. for the rest of the season. If he thrives as expected, the front office can submit a multi-year proposal to his agent in the offseason.

For reasons on and off the court, buying out Brown Jr. from the New Orleans Pelicans is a winning decision for the LA Clippers. This is the outcome of their deal with the Utah Jazz.
