As the LA Clippers’ postseason hopes took a turn of disappointment, the front office may be looking to move on to a better future. This is primarily because the Clippers have been trying to make history for years, yet the West Conference Finals is the furthest they could get.
While head coach Tyronn Lue did make a deep run in 2021, the ultimate goal is to win the title, and injuries have plagued the Clippers from doing so. In particular, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have proven that their age is catching up to them. This leaves the front office with no choice but to move on sooner than later.
Furthermore, George and Leonard are still in the midst of their primes, despite their inability to stay healthy. These two are arguably the best two-way stars in the league when they are at their peak.
However, first up on the trade block may be George, as he has come up short in back-to-back seasons. On the flip side, multiple playoff-level teams would be willing to trade their young core for a star of George’s caliber. This is parallel to what the Clippers are looking for in return.
That said, one of those teams is the New York Knicks. Following their recent playoff run, they showed the rest of the league what they are capable of. They could easily compete to win the Eastern Conference with an elite two-way talent in their lineup. Additionally, they have the young talent and draft compensation to meet the needs of the LA Clippers.
