This point guard would take the LA Clippers to their final destination
Throughout the last few seasons, the point guard position has been one area in which the LA Clippers have found trouble. No matter their moves, the team consistently lacks a dominant ball-handler. Although the Clippers acquired a play-maker like John Wall in the off-season, his impact has kept the offense from being pushed to where it should be.
That said, it may be time for the front office to consider making a trade. Though several franchises across the league may have what the Clippers are looking for, the asking price may be too high. As head coach Tyronn Lue has some of the best depth in the NBA, this could limit what other teams may receive in return.
One point guard that could be available to the LA Clippers is the offensive-specialist D’Angelo Russell. Over the last year, there have been numerous reports that Russell’s name would likely be involved in trade discussions. This gives the Clippers’ front office a solid chance to add the veteran guard.
Additionally, the LA Clippers would have tremendous leverage in a trade with the Timberwolves. Knowing that he had been in the trade market for quite some time, the front office could negotiate a deal that works in their favor. This may include late draft picks and a veteran from which the Clippers are looking to move on.
D’Angelo Russell’s contributions would lead the Clippers to their first-ever NBA Finals run.
Assuming the LA Clippers traded for D’Angelo Russell, they would receive a scoring machine that can make plays at a very high level. Lue’s offense currently ranks bottom ten in the league. Another offensive-minded guard is precisely what the team needs.
Furthermore, Russell is currently averaging 16.8 points, 6.5 assists, and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 45.5% from the field. Not to mention he has played in 36 games this season which shows that injuries are not a problem.
One of the biggest cons to adding a talent like Russell is his defensive abilities. However, the Clippers could use their ridiculous wing depth to their advantage by ‘hiding’ Russell in any way possible. Inserting him into a lineup with two-way talents would prove this addition is crucial to the team’s championship aspirations.
Moreover, Lue has experimented all year, and it is clear which players may be on the move. Suppose the Clippers hope to finish the regular season on the right note. In that case, trading for Russell should be one of their top priorities. As the offense needs significant attention, there is no better way to address these issues than the trade–deadline.
