Paul George has been in the MVP conversation before, but never for the LA Clippers.

After the potential he showed in the postseason last year, he certainly has the chance to do it this year. I know that the ‘Pandemic P’ trolls are going to decide that George has no chance, but the reality of the situation is that George put up 29.6 points per game, 11 rebounds per game, 5.6 assists per game, and had 1.4 steals per game when Kawhi Leonard went down in the playoffs. The facts show that George has what it takes to carry the Clippers to success this year when they will likely be without Claw for a while.

The path for George winning the MVP is there for the taking, and he’s capable of taking that step this year.

No. 3 goal for Paul George to win MVP with the LA Clippers next year: Improve the jumper

The best sample size to analyze Paul George’s jump shot is the time where he and the LA Clippers weren’t playing with Kawhi Leonard this past postseason. Those 176 shots are going to look similar to the types of contested looks George is going to get without Leonard for defenses to pay attention to.

It’s not a huge deal that George only shot 30.4% from deep considering all the rest that he did. After all, he did have a solid 43.8% field goal percentage. It’s just unrealistic, however, to expect voters to select George for MVP while he’s shooting 30.4% from the two and three positions.

George is a good shooter, and will shoot better than that. He needs to really grind on his jumper this offseason, though, because defenses are going to be relentless with tough looks for him now that he’s the number one.
