No. 1 reason why DeMar DeRozan is a perfect fit with the LA Clippers: He can hold it down if Kawhi’s out
If Kawhi Leonard’s injury continues to keep him out for an extended period of time, DeMar DeRozan would be one of my top picks to hold down the fort (of realistically available players this offseason).
DeRozan is like Leonard in that he has an elite mid-range game and can play multiple positions at a high level.
Since his first All-Star season (2013-2014), DeRozan has averaged 22.8 points per game, 4.9 assists per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, and 1.1 steals per game. That’s a very well-rounded stat line, and he also shoots 83.3% from the line as his career mark, and has shot 46% from the field in his career.
There aren’t a lot of wings on the trade block or available via free agency who have the resume DeRozan has.
If there’s anyone we can get to fill in for Kawhi while he’s ailing, DeRozan’s the guy.

DeRozan is one of the better players in this league, and has been for quite some time. If the Clippers can make this happen, they need to be serious about making it happen.
