LA Clippers Trade Wishlist Item #2: Another Big
The last couple of games have convinced me that my number one wish when the LA Clippers hit the trade market is that they grab another big man.
This plays a bit into the health item above. If Serge has to miss time, or if either one of Serge or Ivica Zubac are in foul trouble or foul out, who can fill in as the second big? It’s Marcus Morris if the LA Clippers want to go small, or it’s Fi or Oturu. Not exactly any solutions that inspire much confidence.
The LA Clippers need to remedy this issue, either at the trade deadline or in the buyout market. At the guard position, they at least have bodies that can fill in if needed, and the same with forwards. But if either of our two rim protectors go down or foul out, then we instantly know there are going to be minutes without anybody who can guard the paint.

That’s a recipe for disaster, and last night clearly showed it. The LA Clippers have 4 centers on their team, but only 2 can see any time whatsoever on the court, and the Clippers are a bottom 10 team in field goal percentage allowed in the restricted area. Those two facts are connected.
I don’t think the LA Clippers need to swing for the fences here. I’m not calling for Andre Drummond or, honestly, even Myles Turner. I’m thinking more along the lines of a JaVale McGee. Somebody who can play competent minutes at the center and be seven feet tall.
If the LA Clippers address their need for a third big, that will go a long way to answering some of their problems, but that’s not the only item on the wishlist.
