Paul George did all the right things for the LA Clippers in the preseason.

It’s no secret that not only LA Clippers fans but the entire NBA fanbase was down on Paul George following the 2019-20 playoffs. PG had some poor outings, with the game seven loss to the Denver Nuggets being the one that received the most criticism.

Following the team’s collapse, PG went to work in the offseason. He has told several parties that he will bounce back this season and the Clippers’ franchise seemingly believes the same given that they extended his contract for four more seasons.

While the preseason was just three games and typically not a great indicator, fans still have to be pleased with George’s performance and what looks to be him seemingly backing up his words.

In just 19.2 minutes per game, George led the team in scoring with 11.7 points, connecting on 44% of his attempts from the field. He also managed to lead the group in assists with 3.3 per game. None of that seems extremely impressive but if you look at those stats per 36 minutes, you start to get a better feeling about PG.

Per 36 minutes, here’s George’s stat line:

Paul George per 36 minutes: 21.9 PPG, 44 FG%, (40 3P%), 2.5 RPG, 6.3 AST, 1.3 STL.

That’s not half bad. If George can put up similar numbers for the Clippers this season, I honestly don’t think anyone will be too upset about his extension. Based on years past, we can assume his scoring will be slightly higher and the assists will be slightly lower but regardless, that’s an All-Star level stat line.

George has not been one to mince words, often talking a bit too much. Given how adamant he is that this year will be an improved outing, he absolutely better prove his own words right. The LA Clippers trust in PG, as do I, but it will take some time for him to show all of Clipper Nation why they should. These preseason outings were a step in the right direction but consistency is all that will matter.
