The first major addition of the offseason for the LA Clippers came in a four-team trade, and that saw the draft rights for Mathias Lessort, a conditional 2023 first-round pick, and Maurice Harkless all come to LA.
Harkless has been a pretty solid forward for most of this decade, managing to accumulate 3,491 career points mostly from two-pointers. Despite that fact, he’s solid in almost every aspect of his game. He proved his worth back in Portland by earning 2,116 of those career points via his talents in getting to 1,052 total rebounds and hitting 1,102 two-pointers in four seasons.
Another nice side-note of acquiring Harkless is that he left Portland feeling empty after they lost both him and Al-Farouq Aminu. Starting to pick away from the other Western Conference powerhouses is giving the LA Clippers their own chance to become a powerhouse in the West. If he made such a big difference for Portland, imagine how big he’ll come up for the Clips as well. Harkless is still at the young age of 26, so we might get to see him stick around and play solid defense for years to come.
He can make big stops, he can find miraculous ways to get the ball through the hoop, and best of all, he works well behind his team by creating great offense with fantastic passing. He’s another one of those players that fits perfectly with the hard-working attitude of the LA Clippers, and they got pretty lucky to acquire him so early on. We have yet to see how he truly works with the team, but as it stands, this was a great trade to start the offseason.
The best was still yet to come, though.
