September 3 has come and gone and Andre Iguodala is not a member of the LA Clippers as was rumored. This isn’t surprising given the circumstances.

According to my calendar, today is September 4. According to the lack of notifications on my phone when I awoke this morning, Andre Iguodala is, in fact, not a member of the LA Clippers as he was rumored to be just last week.

No, I’m not going to sit here and call the ClipCast guys idiots or besmirch them. Maybe they got bad info. Maybe they misheard. Whatever the case, I think we as Clipper Nation learned one thing and one thing only: Don’t fully believe anything until we have multiple confirmable reports.

The ClipCast guys have sources. They’ve been around for years and I can’t really see them gaining much outside of a few subscribers for reporting this Iggy news. But, as we saw this summer with RDA Ambition and Arye Abraham, fans (and not just Clipper fans) are better served to take everything with a whopping grain of salt.

There are a few things here that set off red flags. First, there had been no reports of Memphis and Iguodala working together to establish a buyout. The last thing we have really heard is that Memphis is working hard to trade him in order to get something back. Do the Clippers do that? Maybe.

A trade of Maurice Harkless and other things (Jerome Robinson? Picks?) in theory works, but Memphis may just wait. There’s no reason they had to get this done yesterday.

Sure, Doc liked an Instagram post of Iggy joining the Clippers, but why wouldn’t he? What coach wouldn’t be excited about that prospect? Iguodala himself even seemed to be laughing at the rumors.

Yes, Iguodala joining the Clippers makes sense on paper. The Clips could use his depth and he would have a chance of getting another ring. Memphis doesn’t really gain anything by keeping him on the roster this year.

For what it’s worth, the ClipCast guys have stayed adamant that they are telling the truth, even if they did get the date wrong. Something may happen in the future, but for now let’s just all sit back and relax. The Clippers have assembled one hell of a team as is. Be proud of that and don’t get too invested in rumors unless they are coming from multiple sources.
