Jerry West Believes Terance Mann Will Be An Impact Player
LA Clippers advisor Jerry West said during The Playbook that he believes Terance Mann will have a large role by the end of the 2019-20 season.
During last night’s event, The Playbook Vol. 4, team advisor Jerry West spoke on several things, including the team’s free agency acquisitions, the rookies taken in the draft and his outlook for the team. One of the most notable things he mentioned though, revolved around rookie point guard Terance Mann.
West said that he believes Mann will be playing a lot by the end of the season. Coming from The Logo himself, this is a big endorsement for Mann.
With the departure of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the Paul George deal, the Clippers looked like they would be lacking depth at the point guard position. They had taken Terance Mann in the second round prior to the trade, but no one knew what to expect from the Florida State prospect.
Mann quickly showed his value in Summer League, earning the hearts of Clippers’ fans in the process. He put up 8.7 points per game along with 5.7 assists. More impressively though, the 6’6 guard finished third in rebounds per game for the entire league with 11.3 per game.
The talent he showed made us already consider him as a possible solution at the backup point guard slot, as he showed shades of Patrick Beverley. Oddly enough, this doesn’t seem like something that surprised the Clippers’ front office. According to President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank, the team had been scouting Mann since he was just thirteen years old.
Mann has the chance to be an impact player off the bench. His size along with his toughness allows him to defend both guard positions. Coming in after spending all four years at Florida State, Mann should already be a mature player. This is important if he is getting big minutes on a championship contender.
While it is possible the Clippers add someone like Brandon Jennings or Shaun Livingston, the endorsement from Jerry West has to mean a lot going forward for the young rookie.
