Many think the LA Clippers need to focus on adding a backup point guard in free agency, but they might already have two in Terance Mann and Jerome Robinson.
The LA Clippers, for everything amazing they have pulled off in free agency, still have a couple of holes to fill on the roster.
With the loss of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the Paul George trade, Patrick Beverley has earned the starting point guard spot. Who his filling his spot in the backup spot? That’s an issue the team needs to address.
There have been rumblings from fans that the team should sign NBA champion and former Clipper Shaun Livingston. While Livingston does bring a veteran presence to the court, his game has been declining for years. He also does not fit the modern archetype for point guards, relying completely on his mid-range game. In fact, he only attempted two three-pointers last season in 64 games with the Warriors, making neither.
Other players still available on the free agent market include Jeremy Lin (who was unable to get meaningful minutes on the Toronto Raptors this year), Jonathan Simmons (he was cut by the Wizards, so take that as you will) and Justin Holiday (He can shoot well, but has interest from a lot of teams).
With the market almost dried up, it almost seems like the Clippers will have to sign someone who may not be able to get on the court much come postseason. With injuries always lurking around the corner, having a solid backup point guard is key.
However, the franchise may have an answer internally. In fact, they may have two: Terance Mann and Jerome Robinson.
